Narrow Victory for U13 girls over Spitfires

Melksham under pressure from Spitfires Midfield

After 3 convincing victories over the Spitfires the Melksham Girls were in confident mood, but were to come under constant pressure in the early exchanges from the Spitfires.

Melksham began to get into their stride and eventally took the lead with a goal from mary after being put through by Ash. There were further chances for Ash and Tash just going wide before Mary doubled the lead on 21 minutes, with Tash adding a third on 24 minutes.

The Spitfires then scored with a fine effort from Tiffany who rounded two Melksham players then slotted the ball home to the right of Abi, leaving the score 3-1 at half time.

In worsening conditions the girls were finding it hard to play any passing football, with both teams relying on individual skills to win the game. Melksham came close with 2 efforts from tash before a long range effort from the Spitfires brought the score back to 3-2. In a tense last 15 minutes Melksham  had numberous chances to calm Kevins nerves

but the keeper had an excellent second half, at one point saving 3 times.  The final whistle finally blew with a 3-2 win for Melksham but an excellent display from the Spitfires with

numerous Melksham playing telling the Spitfires girls how well they played.

This means Melksham need 1 point from the next two games  to become the first Girls team to win a league title.

Well done girls u showed u can play when things are not going right and had a great attitude to congratulate your opposition on their performance.
