MTYFC U13 Girls through to cup final after Penalty Shoot out

The Melksham girls were in confident mood for there emi final against Bradford after playing them 3 times this season, but they were put on the back foot early on as Bradford pressurised the Melksham goal gaining numerous corners. On 15 minutes this pressure paid divident, when Melksham failed to clear a corner and it pinging off numerous defenders it crossed the line for Bradford to take the lead.  The Celebrations were short lived as Holly stroked the ball home to level the scores 2 minutes later.

The rest of the game was end to end with the Bradford keeper and Abi holding on to anything thrown into the penalty area. Both teams were putting in 100% but could not make a breakthrough, Tash shot just wide before the end and Holly had a couple of shots blocked.

With the scores level the game went into extra time with both teams knowing a single goal could clinch the tie. Both teams pushed for the winner with Bradford having the first chance, with a ball loose inthe area after the corner and the goal open but the player could just not get the ball under control. With a minute left on the clock there was a scramble in the Bradford area with the ball just not falling to A melksham player to strike the ball home,
the whistle blew and it was going down to penalties.

Melksham were first up  with Naomi whose shot just went over the bar, Bradford had the advantage but shot over the bar 0-0.

Holly strolled forward and slotted the ball home, Abi got a hand to the Bradford Penalty which hit the bar and bounced over the line 1-1.

Tash blasted her penalty which the Bradford Keeper attempted to keep out and hurt her self in doing so after having a great game. Bradford had to score to keep the game alive but shot  just wide to put Melksham through to the final.

This was a true cup tie and kept the supporters nerves on the edge until the end and was played in great spirit by both teams.

The final will take place on Melksham Town Ground On Sunday the 4th May.
