MTYFC U12 Girls A Move into Third Place

MTYFC U12 GILRS A MOVE INTO THIRD PLACE AFTER FINE WIN.

Melksham Town Youth FC Girls U12A's first league match of 2008 was an away fixture against local rivals Trowbridge Wanderers.

Melksham started the game looking the stronger team by scoring a goal within the first minute of the match. A well taken run down the right wing saw Captain Mel pass two players to fire a well placed shot to the keepers left.

Several minutes later after fine passing by the entire  team, Melksham   forced a corner in the Trowbridge half. A long throw into the box allowed Lauren to tuck the ball neatly home. Trowbridge began to play a little and managed to shoot wide after 5 minutes.

Melksham pressed forward and another strong run down the right forced another Melksham throw. An identical long ball allowed Lauren who was once again unmarked to volley the ball into the roof of the net. (0-3)

A change of formation placed Ellie into the centre of midfield and Lily into her preferred position of defence. Trowbridge continued to battle their way into the Melksham half but Evan & Lily cleared every chance that they could muster only to put the Trowbridge defence under huge pressure on the break. The pace of Mel and Jess kept causing Trowbridge problems and within minutes another 3 goals from Mel and 2 from Lauren saw Trowbridge go behind 0-8 at half time.

Trowbridge began the second half with inspired confidence. Long balls supplied by the Trowbridge back line started to un-nerve the Melksham team. A couple more chances flew wide of the Melksham goal so a fresh pair of legs saw Emily return to the Melksham defence in fine form.

Melksham's keeper Courtney had very little to do in the first half but she stayed alert to stop several well taken shots by the strong Trowbridge forward in the second period.

With the end of the game fast approaching Melksham continued to play on the break with Lauren scoring another two in close succession. Jess added her name to the score sheet after a powerful shot deflected off of a Trowbridge defender to place the score at 0-11. The last goal of the game was scored after a  clever throw from the Melksham keeper landed at the feet of Ellie in midfield. Neat passing by Ellie, Jess, Lauren and Mel saw Mel to fire home to end the game 0-12 to Melksham.

An excellent well organised team performance pushed Melksham into third position in the league, leap frogging Cricklade who they will meet for their next away match on the 1st March.
