Melksham Town Youth U12 Girls off to a flying start
Melksham Town Youth U12 Girls A began the season with a win after a slow start in their first match of the season against local rivals Trowbridge Wanderers.
Both teams battled during the first 20 minutes with Trowbridge having a lot of the play. Trowbridge took the lead with a powerful shot from the halfway line which lobbed the keeper. Trowbridge scored another soon after which left Melksham looking deflated.
The second half began with a strong run from Mel down the right who beat a defender to strike home for Melkshams first goal. Soon after Trowbridge hit back after a mix up in the box to place the score at 3-1 Trowbridge.
Trowbridge began to tire and the fitness and pace of the Melksham's attack took over. Further runs from Mel, excellent clearances from Ellie and Evan in defence, strong challenges by Tash and Lily placed chances at the feet of Jessica & Lauren who both fired home to level the score. Melksham's dominance further in the second half gave more chances. Mel hit the crossbar first and then scored two more goals after making strong runs. A Trowbridge own goal and a close range shot from Jess settled the game for the Stingers with a 7-3 home win. An excellent team performance by all players involved.
