Under 10 Girls Draw Away

Melksham & Swindon Spitfires after the Game

Well done to the Spit's who clinched the League title with a point.

Needing 3 points today to stay in contention for League Winners, our girls started the match brightly and had the Spit's on the back foot. Looking assured in all positions the girls passed the ball quickly and soon made their first opportunity. It wasn't long before more quick passes opened up the Spit's defence and Georgia was on hand to slot the ball home with a very cool finish. The girls didn't have to wait too long before an excellent ball out of defence down the line by Erin found Ruby who skipped past the defence and shot early, the shot took a deflection and looped over the Spit's keeper to make it 2 - 0 to Melksham.

The girls continued to dominate the game, a fine save from Imy and good defending managed to scramble the ball away for Spit's only real chance. Then with a couple of minutes to go until half-time we conceded almost a carbon copy goal that won Spit's the Cup last week. A lack of concentration and one touch too many lost us possession and Spits got the ball down the line, pulled out the central defenders and the cross saw yet another tap in at the back post, a trade mark Spit's goal!

The second half started and was end to end, without many real chances on either goal, some terrific covering defending, battling in midfield and quick feet and skill up front kept Melksham in front and it looked like the score would remain until the full time whistle. However, this is football and a Spit's corner late in the game turned into a freak goal to give Spit's the point they needed to win the League and leave our girls needing a point next week against Swindon Town Reds to finish Runner-Up.

Credit must be given to both sides for this and the previous games in the League and Cup, well done girls, the spirit and the ability you have is a pleasure to watch and work with.

Good Luck next season to Spit's, well done Kev and all the girls.

Well played today Melksham, you showed today how you can move the ball quickly and when you do, the opposition can't get close to you or the ball. You worked hard for each other and battled well.

Lets enjoy next Saturday and keep smiling!
